Ms. Dimpho Njadingwe

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Ms. Dimpho Njadingwe, is an Institutional Review Board (IRB) Assistant in the Office of Research and Development (ORD), University of Botswana (UB). She received a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education with specialization in Geography, both from the University of Botswana.  Dimpho’s main role in the UB IRB involves the processing of research proposals submitted to the IRB by UB staff, students and other persons affiliated with UB.  Dimpho also directly participates in the review of research proposals submitted by undergraduate students. She also assists as a liaison in the processing of Government Research Permits with various Government Ministries.

Dimpho has a keen interest in the operations of IRBs. She would like to learn more about the IRB, its functions and the application of ethical principles in research so she can become more confident in her service to the UB research community inclusive of academic staff, students and UB affiliates.  She hopes to increase her knowledge of Research Ethics and integrate it into her work as a way of improving the service provided by the UB IRB to the institution and to the research community. The FABTP experience will also put her in a better position to participate more effectively in the strengthening of Research Ethics and oversight at the University of Botswana in line with UBs Research Strategy. She hopes that her training at JHU will additionally prepare her for the role of coordinating future partnerships and a planned UB Centre for Bioethics.
