Trainee Bornwell Sikateyo (2004) reports from the field on the conclusion of his practicum project on Zambian health workers’ knowledge of, attitudes towards and practices relating to research ethics and his decision to pursue a PhD in the Public Health and Policy Division of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Readers are introduced to the five new 2007 trainees: Kagemlo Kiro (Tanzania), Julius Nwobegahay (Nigeria), Pauline Osamor (Nigeria), Musonda Simwinga (Zambia) and Dr. Olaniyi Taiwo (Nigeria). The Newsletter announces the publication of a new case study authored by Dr. Kass, Dr. Hyder and eleven Fogarty Trainees entitled, The Structure and Function of Research Ethics Committees in Africa: A Case Study, and summarizes findings.
